Job Summary

This position performs advanced carpentry duties with only general supervision to include (but not limited to): driving to and from construction sites or UAMS Main Campus;
independently reading and understanding architectural plans and specifications, developing a work timeline and defining material requirements for projects of a range of sizes; efficiently assessing actual conditions of the space being renovated or remodeled and developing templates, minimizing material requirements and developing and implementing plans to avoid known and unforeseen obstructions; working independently or as the advanced carpenter on a team guiding others to construct walls, install door frames and doors, install suspended ceilings and sheetrock ceilings, and hang drywall;
applying skills and precision to handle specialty materials such as metals and plastics; executing a wide range of projects such as cabinetry installation, finishing and/or manufacturing; cross‑training with advanced proficiency in other areas of maintenance and construction such as finishing drywall for final painting, painting, staining, and installation and repair of multiple types of floor coverings including carpet, carpet tile, vinyl tile, sheet vinyl, and ceramic tile.
Complete documentation is essential for the Engineering & Operations work order system and preventative maintenance program. This position has a high level of technical skills supporting independent identification and resolution of challenges, and others seek input when dealing with new challenges. Capable of providing oversight of third‑party contractor work. The role is an experienced craftsman responsible for renovating and remodeling the medical, educational, and research facilities on the UAMS Campus.
These duties are vital to the safety, comfort, and general wellbeing of patients, students, and employees. The position also assists with all problems and/or emergencies relating to facility issues on the UAMS Campus.
