Construction Generalist (Construction) Job Summary

The Construction Generalist directly supports the Construction Carpenter across all construction and renovation projects. Duties involve hands‑on assistance with building and repairing structures, preparing and handling materials, and maintaining tools, all while adhering to safety protocols, project timelines, and collaborating with the team.

Job

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Construction Carpenter with building, erecting, installing and repairing forms, structures and other fixtures made from wood and other materials as needed to assist with various types of construction.
  • Assist Construction Carpenter with measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, plastic, and other materials using hand and power tools.
  • Assist Construction Carpenter with inspecting and repairing damaged frameworks or structures, ensuring stability and safety.
  • Follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Collaborate with other CARTI Team Members including contractors, vendors and other departments as necessary.
  • Adhere to project timelines and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Assist Construction Carpenter with loading and unloading materials.
  • Assist Construction Carpenter with maintaining tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment before, during and after a project.
  • Complete construction and renovation projects throughout the organization.
  • May require travel, night and weekend work on occasion.
Education, Certification, Licensure and Registration

High School diploma; successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Arkansas Driver’s License.

Experience, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • One (1) year of on‑the‑job construction training required.
  • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
  • Must have a good grasp of mathematics.
  • Ability to use fixed and portable power tools.
  • Ability to utilize tools of carpentry trade.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have a good understanding of technical terminology.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Ability to follow safety practices and recognize safety hazards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public.
Reasoning Ability
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or scheduled form.
Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to lift, manipulate, and hold moderate and heavy loads. The work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds or more), and perform other similar actions during the workday.
