Job Description & How to Apply Below

Kennie’s Markets, a proudly employee‑owned grocery retail company with deep roots across Central Pennsylvania, is seeking a Director of Finance to join our leadership team. Founded in 1959, Kennie’s has built its reputation on community, quality, and integrity values that continue to guide our growth and success.

This is an exciting opportunity for a forward‑thinking finance leader who wants to make a meaningful impact not only through strong financial performance but also by fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will combine strategic financial vision with hands‑on operational expertise and genuine appreciation for people and community.

This role is part of a thoughtful succession plan, as the current financial leader prepares for retirement. We’re looking for someone who can step in, learn about our business, and ultimately carry out the financial stewardship of Kennie’s into the future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership:
Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, supporting decision‑making through insightful financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis:
Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range planning processes, aligning financial goals with business objectives.
  • Accounting Oversight:
Manage the accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
  • Performance Management:
Develop and monitor KPIs, providing actionable insights to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Board & ESOP Reporting:
Prepare board reports and lead financial presentations for executive and ownership groups.
  • Systems & Process Improvement:
Serve as the system lead for the FMS accounting platform and continuously improve processes for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Team Leadership:
Mentor, train, and develop accounting and finance staff to foster a high‑performing, collaborative team environment.
  • Cross‑Functional Partnership:
Collaborate with store and department leaders to align operational decisions with financial strategy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred)
  • 7+ years of progressive financial management experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
  • Experience in retail, grocery, or inventory‑intensive industries preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (FMS preferred) and advanced Excel capabilities
  • Proven ability to balance strategic vision with hands‑on execution
  • Excellent communication skills and a people‑first leadership style
  • Broad leadership experience with general knowledge of HR, IT, and other operational areas, enabling effective cross‑functional collaboration and oversight (expert‑level proficiency not required).
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation package: $95,000 – $135,000 annually, commensurate with experience
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) and retirement plan
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Paid time off and employee discounts
  • The opportunity to lead within a mission‑driven, employee‑owned organization that values integrity, service, and excellence
  • A key leadership role during a time of exciting growth and transition

If you’re a strategic financial leader ready to guide a purpose‑driven company into its next chapter, we invite you to apply. Please submit your resume, cover letter, and salary requirements for consideration.
