SummaryThe primary focus of the Executive Director – Thermal position is to conduct technical and commercial due diligence related to thermal power and other energy infrastructure projects in support of project financing or acquisitions/divestitures. The role requires providing owner‑engineering and development support, technical advisory services, and participation in all project lifecycle stages—pre‑construction, financing, construction, performance testing, O&M review, divestiture, decommissioning, and redevelopment.
The executive will also participate in restructuring consulting for distressed assets and actively engage in business development to bring new projects and clients to the team.
- Review and opine on technical terms in commercial documents (e.g., equipment supply agreements, EPC agreements, offtake agreements, construction management agreements).
- Understand typical market terms and conditions related to technology risks, construction budgets and schedules, and bankable terms.
- Review project schedules and capital costs, opining on adequacy for project completion.
- Review and remain familiar with contingency requirements for various project types.
- Prepare estimates for construction costs, including change orders.
- Provide construction monitoring services—visiting sites to assess schedule and budget progress and providing monthly reporting.
- Witness performance testing for natural gas‑fired power plants and review testing procedures and results.
- Understand typical environmental and regulatory requirements of thermal power plants.
- Review financial models to confirm reasonableness of construction costs and long‑term capital expenditures.
- Serve as a team lead with potential for future direct reports.
- Serve as Project Manager on projects in expertise area.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert to other Project Managers.
- Act as client interface for project work and business development.
- Work with sub‑consultants as needed to build specialized skill sets.
- Actively contribute to business development and generate new business.
- Participate in proposal preparation, approval, and presentation.
- Serve as reference and coach in area of expertise for the team.
- Perform other tasks as necessary to support overall team objectives (small‑business culture).
- Leverage construction skills for other technologies (renewables, infrastructure), a plus.
- Travel 10–25% of the time to visit sites from pre‑construction to decommissioning.
- Follow company management practices, policies, and work rules.
This position reports directly to the VP Operations. It may grow to include direct reports and serves as a technology lead, providing support to other E3 team members.
CompensationThe initial compensation range is $195,700 – $225,000.
Education And Experience- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
- 15+ years of relevant experience; prior experience as an IE or consultant preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong verbal and written communication, including presentations.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).
- Independent and team‑orientated work style.
- Sound judgment to make decisions and set priorities.
