Payroll Supervisor (Hybrid Work Schedule)
Join the Arapahoe County team as a Payroll Supervisor, managing Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Purchasing Card processes in a hybrid work environment.
OverviewPerform complex technical duties and supervise a team of five non-exempt staff, ensuring accurate compliance and process improvement within the Finance Department.
Responsibilities- Supervise 5 non-exempt staff, providing direction, reviewing work, and developing performance plans.
- Oversee biweekly Payroll, semi‑weekly Accounts Payable, and monthly Purchasing Card processes.
- Serve as subject matter expert in Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Purchasing Card matters, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Research, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues with calculations and guidance to staff.
- Manage Payroll, Time & Attendance, and Accounts Payable issues in SAP, collaborating with Countywide personnel.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, analyzing regulations and advising management.
- Recommend and implement business process improvements, documenting best practices.
- Assist in testing SAP Payroll and Accounts Payable processes during system changes, evaluating results.
- Develop and update documented processes and procedures for Payroll and Accounts Payable.
- Deliver training materials and communications for system and process changes.
- Track performance measures for Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Purchasing Card processes.
- Support administrative functions and special projects such as disaster recovery.
- Confirm calculations, perform account reconciliations, and authorize bank transfers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
- At least five (5) years of relevant Payroll experience.
- At least three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in Payroll, and preferably in Accounts Payable.
- At least three (3) years of experience in an ERP Payroll/Accounts Payable environment.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred; certification required within 18 months.
- Strong ability to direct and evaluate performance of others; strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication; ability to establish working relationships with elected officials, department directors, auditors, consultants, and the public.
- Strong knowledge of Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, purchase and credit card transactions, bank reconciliations, automated banking, internal controls, and segregation of duties.
- Basic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Valid Colorado Class “R” Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within two weeks.
- Successful pre‑employment testing, motor vehicle record, and background check.
