Field/Service Technician, Installation Technician
The Structured Cabling Superintendent (SCS) is responsible for providing field leadership, technical oversight, quality control, and operational support for Beacon Communications' structured cabling and related low-voltage projects.
The SCS serves as the primary field leadership resource for assigned projects and is responsible for directing field personnel, establishing field execution strategies, maintaining project schedules and productivity expectations, supporting budget performance, identifying change-order opportunities, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with Beacon standards, project requirements, applicable codes, and manufacturer specifications.
The SCS works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Pre Construction, Service, Field Engineers, Technicians, customers, general contractors, manufacturers, engineers, and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. The position is expected to provide hands-on leadership in the field while also providing technical and operational support to the broader Beacon organization.
The SCS will report to the Operations Manager and will work collaboratively with Project Management and the Operations Coordinator to establish weekly field priorities, coordinate manpower, address project constraints, and ensure field resources are aligned with project requirements.
The SCS is responsible for protecting and promoting Beacon Communications' interests in all business and project matters and for performing all duties reasonably necessary to support successful project execution. The salary range for this position is between $34.00 - $42.00/hour, dependent on relevant education, experience, and other job-related factors.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead and perform installation of structured cabling systems including copper, fiber optic, and pathway infrastructure.
- Supervise and direct field technicians, ensuring productivity, quality, and adherence to company standards.
- Interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate installation.
- Coordinate daily jobsite activities, manpower, and material needs with Project Manager.
- Maintain accountability for jobsite safety, cleanliness, and organization.
- Oversee headend buildout, rack and stack, terminations, labeling, and grounding.
- Ensure all installations meet industry standards, codes, and customer requirements.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of cabling systems, connectivity, and basic network issues.
- Manage jobsite materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring proper usage and security.
- Identify material shortages and coordinate procurement with warehouse or management.
- Conduct quality control checks and ensure all work meets company and manufacturer standards.
- Train, mentor, and develop junior technicians and installers.
- Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, redlines, and closeout packages.
- Participate in scheduling, project planning, and coordination meetings as needed.
- Communicate effectively with Project Managers, customers, and other trades.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, participate in toolbox talks, and enforce jobsite safety standards.
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professionalism at all times.
- Travel and work extended hours as required by project demands.
- Serve as a professional, knowledgeable, and responsive field representative of Beacon Communications.
- Interface directly with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, manufacturers, developers, and end users as required.
- Participate in project and site meetings as necessary.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate project issues, technical concerns, schedule impacts, and resolution options clearly and professionally.
- Work with customer support departments and Beacon account representatives to identify and provide effective resolution options.
- Maintain a customer-focused approach while protecting Beacon's contractual, operational, and financial interests.
- Provide technical direction to Service personnel on complex structured cabling and low-voltage system issues.
- Support Service and Account Management personnel in identifying system deficiencies, upgrade opportunities, and additional customer needs.
- Assist with service-related technical assessments and recommendations when requested.
