About Aalyria:

Aalyria is a leading technology company that supplies laser communications technology and temporospatial software-defined networking platforms to the aerospace industry. With technology acquired from Google, Aalyria is at the forefront of innovation in satellite and airborne mesh networks, as well as cislunar and deep-space communications. We are revolutionizing the orchestration and management of planetary mesh networks using any radio or optical spectrum, any orbit, and any hardware across land, sea, air, and space.

Role Overview:

Aalyria is seeking a FPGA development Engineer to join our innovative team in our Aalyria Space business unit. In this role, the Engineer will lead the design, development, validation, and delivery of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) platforms for high-speed data communications applications, as well as high accuracy pointing, tracking, and adaptive-optics systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated depth and breadth in FPGA platforms, including programming languages, available IP cores, different hardware platforms and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary collaborative team on the development of Lasercom (laser communication) subsystems, including the data communication, tracking subsystem, and adaptive wavefront correction.
  • Work on a range of projects that span laboratory testbeds, fieldable prototypes, and production-ready systems.
  • Actively lead and participate in the full lifecycle of development: design, implementation, verification, troubleshooting, and delivery.
  • Support demonstrations and tests, ranging from laboratory to fielded customer pilot programs.
  • Support transition of prototype development and testing infrastructure to manufacturing, at the appropriate juncture.
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in developing SOC FPGA-based solutions from requirements definition to customer delivery and support
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HDL coding (at least two of Verilog, VHDL, System Verilog)
  • Experience with the AMD/Xilinx FPGA platform and toolchain (Zynq/Virtex/Versal, Vivado/Vitis)
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet 10G+, DDR3+, JESD
    204)
  • Experience with architectural trade-offs, fixed point design, timing analysis, and meeting critical timing constraints
  • Experience with efficient and robust implementation of DSP algorithms for high-speed communications
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and collaboration abilities within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong execution track record in schedule and resource-constrained environments
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in relevant engineering discipline with 5+ years of industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience in participating in the full development lifecycle of a lasercom terminal or similar system, from design to delivery
  • Experience designing for the space and terrestrial environmental conditions
  • Experience with network packet processing, error-correction codes, and/or image sensors
  • Experience with implementation of delay-sensitive high-accuracy control systems
  • Experience transitioning FPGA designs to ASIC tapeouts
  • Some adjacent experience in circuit design, PCB design, and board bring-up
  • Some adjacent experience in embedded software development
  • Experience in design verification
What We Offer:
  • Innovative Environment: Work at a cutting-edge company shaping the future of aerospace communications.
  • Impactful Work: Directly contribute to critical national security programs and initiatives.
  • Growth Opportunities: Expand your career with opportunities for professional development and advancement.
  • Inclusive Culture: Be part of a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive workplace where your contributions matter.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working arrangements including hybrid remote/in-office schedules.
