Mechanical Technologist/Sr. Mechanical Technologist – Cruise Missile Modernization

We have an opening for a Mechanical Technologist/Sr. Mechanical Technologist to support the Cruise Missile Modernization team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The role involves designing, fabricating, assembling, and supporting electro‑mechanical components in the B131 High Bay and other NWE sites.

Job Description
  • Design, fabricate, assemble, disassemble, upgrade, and retrofit moderately complex electro‑mechanical components and systems under general supervision.
  • Provide technical support to engineering, scientific, and technical staff to plan and conduct experiments supporting the Cruise Missile Modernization program mission at Livermore Site 200, Site 300, and other NWE sites.
  • Support operations, maintenance, design, fabrication, and assembly, assist in planning and completing projects, and update system documentation and experimental records.
  • Operate mechanical diagnostic equipment, maintain area controls, assist in mechanical diagnostic calibration and alignment, test prior to experiment execution, and perform data recovery after experiment execution.
  • Apply intermediate level skills and knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to solve moderately complex mechanical problems.
  • Perform facility related and technical functions such as maintenance, testing, upgrades to equipment control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities (Level 533.3)
  • Provide advanced level technical assembly and disassembly support of complex systems while working independently.
  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and disassemble complex mechanical components and systems, planning and selecting materials and equipment.
  • Assist in developing test parameters, execute comprehensive troubleshooting and testing, identify problems, and make decisions to provide solutions.
Qualifications
  • Secure and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance and U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience that includes mechanical training.
  • Experience solving moderately complex technical problems.
  • Experience with mechanical diagnostic equipment and calibration, testing, and data recovery.
  • Intermediate skills in mechanical fabrication and assembly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Certification maintenance as required.
  • Lift 50 lbs safely and perform medical requirements for protective equipment and respirators.
  • Travel to Nuclear Security Enterprise sites as needed.
Additional Qualifications (Level 533.3)
  • Experience with advanced precision component assemblies with tight tolerances.
  • Advanced technical skills and knowledge to perform comprehensive troubleshooting and decisions for complex problems and project deadlines.
  • Read and follow complex assembly procedures, engineering notes, and drawings.
  • Establish work methods, prioritize, and interpret guidelines and procedures.
Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience assembling electro‑mechanical systems and assemblies.
  • High Explosives certification.
  • Experience fulfilling Work Control process and procedure requirements.
  • Experience working with machine tools.
Security Clearance

Requires DOE Q‑level clearance. Investigation will determine eligibility for classified information access. All cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q‑level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Pre‑Placement Medical Exam

Job‑related pre‑placement medical examination may be required.
