Overview
Spectra Tech is looking for a Solutions Architect for Livermore, CA. We are seeking an experienced IT Database Architect / Administrator to join our Mission Support Operations Center team. The role covers design, implementation, maintenance, and security of database systems, working with application developers, system architects, and IT staff to ensure database performance and reliability. The position requires deep database skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and continuous evaluation of new technologies with strategic design input.
On any given day you may be called on to design, install, configure, and maintain database management systems and related technologies.
Due to on-site requirements, the selected applicant must be able to work 100% onsite in Livermore, CA. The position also requires willingness and ability to work in a 24/7/365 on-call operational environment.
Responsibilities- Design, install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) such as Oracle, Cassandra, SQL Server, MySQL, or Postgre
SQL (or other similar technologies). - Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance tuning measures (e.g., Solar Winds, Splunk, and/or similar technologies).
- Ensure data integrity, security, and availability through effective backup and recovery strategies.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database queries and improve application performance.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including data models, schemas, and procedures.
- Implement and manage database security policies and access controls.
- Participate in capacity planning and database scaling efforts to accommodate growth.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to database management.
- 13 years of directly related experience; or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline and 9 years of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 5 years of directly related experience. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree must be directly related to the duties of the job.
- Experience with SQL (or equivalent) such as performance tuning and query optimization.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CompTIA Security+ certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level and SCI-level security clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
- Install, configure, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot Net App storage systems, HP Blade systems, VMware vSphere and Oracle Linux hosts.
- Familiarity with Windows, Oracle Linux/Red Hat, database security practices and compliance standards.
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning.
- Prior experience working on classified, government systems.
- Maintain custom applications in Oracle Application Express (APEX).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

The Special Programs Operations (SPO) Department coordinates a variety of classified efforts at SNL s California site, working with NNSA, DoD, and the IC to support a 24/7/365 Mission Support operations center and related initiatives.
