About General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you complete daily tasks.
• Engage with guests to help solve their specific needs when they need assistance.
• Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target.
• Execute daily tasks assigned by your leader to help achieve goals that align with business priorities, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas.
• If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
• Execute processes including changing prices, merchandise set-up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed by leadership for all areas.
• Learn how procedures such as setting up and organizing merchandise, managing product stock levels, and maintaining sales floor areas affect inventory, store profitability, and product availability.
• Be knowledgeable about store resources, products, and services to solve issues for the guest and improve their experience.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance.
• Work safely at all times; comply with safety policies and training; report hazards and correct where possible.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking and packing orders, or delivering pickup orders to guests) while maintaining compliance with laws.
• All other duties based on business needs.

• Ability to communicate on multiple devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology as directed.
• Ability to work independently and with a team.
• Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.
• Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established time frames.

Other basics

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
• Climb up and down ladders.
• Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including frequently lifting or moving up to 44 pounds without assistance.
• Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and other elements while performing duties (Drive-Up, carryout, etc.).
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift.
