. The Faculty Mini‑Sabbatical Program is designed to bring top academic talent from universities across the world for a consecutive 1‑3 month visit to the Laboratory. It provides an excellent opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and the development of new collaborations. Selected faculty members will have access to LLNL’s extensive computing facilities, specialized laboratory facilities and field equipment. They will be hosted by a staff scientist and work collaboratively for 1‑3 months within a research group/division sabbatical is scheduled to begin between May 2026 and September 2026.
The position pays a salary of $15,000/month and covers one round‑trip reimbursement to and from Livermore in accordance with LLNL travel policy. For more information visit the LLNL Faculty Mini‑Sabbatical Program site.
$11,970 – $16,998 Monthly (general guideline). The stated pay range is indicative and may vary based on experience, education, and market conditions.

Responsibilities- Provide expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Nuclear Science, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Geoscience, Energy, Lasers, and/or Biology. - Participate in activities as appropriate to provide and gain exposure to the laboratory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
- PhD in a relevant scientific field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be a continuing faculty member at an accredited research institution.
- Extensive knowledge of applicant’s science field demonstrated by a publication record.
- Demonstrated creativity, exceptional ability, and proven accomplishments in applicant’s area of specialization.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information to management.
- Demonstrated initiative and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL, located on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore. It hosts about 200 employees with expertise in engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)To be qualified for this position, candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the 2025 NDAA, which prohibits citizens of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea (without dual US citizenship or legal permanent residence) from accessing specific non‑public areas of national security or nuclear weapons facilities.
