Assistant Accountant

Heygates is a successful Northamptonshire family business with its head office based in Bugbrooke. Employing over 1,400 people across its operations, the Group is recognised as one of the UK's leading flour milling businesses and is now seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its established finance team of 15.

Working closely with colleagues across the finance team, you'll gain hands-on experience across both transactional and month-end accounting activities. Your responsibilities will include supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and analysis, whilst helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function.

• Preparing reconciliations, accruals and financial analysis to support monthly reporting
• Maintaining accurate financial records, including cash books, invoice processing and sales ledger activities
• Supporting the production of budgets, cost reports and profitability analysis
• Assisting with VAT-related duties, intercompany accounting and stock valuations
• Processing expenses, mileage claims and payment checks
• Contributing to profit and loss reporting and wider management information
• Providing support across the wider finance team when required

• Is AAT qualified
• May be studying, or interested in studying, towards ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent)
• Has previous experience within an accounting/ as an Assistant Accountant
• Possesses strong numerical and analytical skills
• Has good Excel skills and attention to detail
• Is organised, reliable and eager to learn
• Enjoys working as part of a team
