Job overview

The Oncology Unit at Furness General Hospital are looking to recruit a part-time Receptionist/Administration Clerks.

You need to be enthusiastic, motivated and prepared for the challenge of providing excellent customer service to the patients using the Oncology/Haematology services in a warm, friendly environment.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work at Furness General Hospital with the potential for some very occasional travel to Westmorland General Hospital.
You will be able to work as an effective team member, demonstrate effective communications skills both written and verbal and support the team in the delivery of patient focused care. Previous reception team and appointment booking experience together with knowledge of the LORENZO system an advantage.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person specification

Education and qualifications
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent to include English language and Maths
  • Keyboard skills/computer literate
  • ECDL or equivalent
  • NVQ or equivalent in Customer Care
Experience
  • Health service experience within a clerical field
  • Previous experience of PAS system/Lorenzo or equivalent
  • Customer Care
Skills, ability and knowledge
  • Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
  • Numerate, good communication skills to include; written, verbal,
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Work to tight deadlines in a professional manner
  • Problem solving and ability to multi task
