Overview

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The King’s Trust couldn’t function as well without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who are able to offer a vital support network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education or training.

As a Business Mentor, you will be working with young people who have completed the King’s Trust Enterprise programme, designed to help 18 to 30‑year‑olds turn their ideas into a business reality. After launching their own business, all young people are matched with a Business Mentor to offer guidance, insight and support as they navigate the early stages of business management.

Your role will be to champion and encourage them in their work, while offering constructive feedback to reinforce learning and inspire progress.

  • Work directly with children/young people (age 18+).
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 young people at any time and at least one mentoring session per month with each mentee.
  • Mentoring sessions can be held online via MS Teams, at a King’s Trust Centre, or in a convenient public location in Liverpool.
  • Live locally to Liverpool; sessions may be remote or face‑to‑face.
  • Term of opportunity: 2 years minimum.
  • Disclosure check:
    Basic.
  • Closing date: 23:59 on 30/04/2026.
Qualifications & Attributes
  • Passion and genuine desire to support young people, many of whom face significant personal barriers.
  • Good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business.
  • Excellent communication skills, creative, flexible and non‑judgemental.
  • Willingness to support young businesses outside of your own industry or experience.
  • We welcome a diverse group of volunteers from different backgrounds, including women, people from ethnic minority backgrounds, and those who can offer specialist experience in finance, legal, commercial premises, social media, website design, marketing, copyright trade, or other areas.
Support & Benefits

Volunteering with The King’s Trust is highly valued. Comprehensive training is provided, along with a dedicated point of contact to help you get the best from your experience and ultimately create amazing outcomes for our young people.

If you are an already existing volunteer, please don’t apply here and instead speak to your point of contact for more information on changing roles.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Here at The King’s Trust, we’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to be an organisation that is representative of the communities we serve, which is why we strive for diversity of age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity and perspective. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone, from any background, can be themselves and do the best work of their lives.

We’re a Stonewall Top 100 Employer and we are Disability Confident. Our staff, volunteers and young people are supported by KT CAN (Cultural Awareness Network), KT GEN (Gender Equality Network), KT DAWN (Disability & Wellbeing Network) and PULSE (LGBTQIA+ Network).

The King’s Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of this commitment, we undertake basic disclosure checks in accordance with the Codes of Practice for all roles within the Trust, and for our roles working directly with young people, at an enhanced level.

Having a criminal record will not automatically exclude applicants.
