Assistant Buyer - Sports

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Buyer on Sports. You’ll report directly into the Buyer for the area, giving you a chance to develop your skills.

Day-to‑day responsibilities include meeting and managing brand relationships, developing commercial range‑plans tailored to our customers, producing and presenting reports at trade meetings on trends, forecasts and opportunities, and working with strategic brands such as New Balance, Converse, Vans and Puma.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with brands to maximise commercial opportunities and manage day‑to‑day email communication with supply chain.
• Maintain commercial awareness by tracking competitor activity, market trends and price positioning.
• Ensure brand relationships align with company values.
• Deputise for the Buyer in key meetings.
• Delegate or take the lead and make decisions under pressure.
• Formulate range frameworks and brand plans in collaboration with merchandising functions.

• Highly organised with excellent communication skills.
• Ability to analyse performance data and apply lessons learned to future range building.
• Proactive in pre‑empting potential challenges that may impact the team or trading and taking steps to minimise them before they arise.
• Strong relationship‑building with internal and external stakeholders.
• Skill in liaising with senior management and articulating category performance.
• Capability in trading actions, identifying best‑sellers, reducing risk from worst‑sellers and delegating or leading where required.
