Job Overview

Location:

Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool.

Contract:

Permanent, Full Time. Grade:
Consultant. Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum. Job

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive luminal gastroenterology services, inpatient and outpatient care, including endoscopy.
  • Participate in consultant‑led rotational "hot week" model, oversee inpatients, ward referrals.
  • Deliver diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy lists, train and supervise within JAG‑accredited unit.
  • Join 1:11 consultant on‑call rota for GI bleeds, acute referrals, inpatient reviews.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) across specialties.
  • Contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, research.
  • Support service development and innovation aligned with Trust priorities.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold full GMC registration, MRCP(UK) or equivalent, and be on Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at interview.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Essential: MB ChB / MB BS (or equivalent), MRCP(UK), Full GMC registration.
  • Desirable: Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, Higher degree (MD/PhD) or pending viva, On GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of CCT.

Clinical

Experience:

  • Essential:
    Broad experience in luminal gastroenterology, evidence of continued medical education.
  • Desirable:
    Subspecialty interest.

Teaching & Training:

  • Essential:
    Experience of teaching medical, nursing, allied health professionals.
  • Desirable: PGCE, Train the Trainer qualification, experience of UG & PG teaching.

Knowledge:

  • Essential:
    High clinical standard for independent consultant practice, endoscopic skills in GI bleeding.
  • Desirable:
    Understanding of GMC Good Medical Practice guidelines.

Audit & Research

Experience:

  • Essential:
    Understanding of clinical audit principles, research principles, enthusiasm for clinical research.
  • Desirable:
    Proven audit experience with publication of results, research involvement with publications.

Managing Self:

  • Essential:
    Able to take responsibility, make decisions, apply authority appropriately.
  • Desirable:
    Commitment to high standards in care, positive approach, alignment with Trust values.

Working with Others:

  • Essential:
    Strong communication, team working across clinical settings.
  • Desirable:
    Empathic, challenges negativity, improves patient experience.

Managing Others:

  • Essential:
    Awareness of NHS Trust management structures, ability to manage conflict.
  • Desirable:
    Support and development of trainee medical staff.

Leading People:

  • Essential:
    Demonstrated leadership in clinical teams and service change.
  • Desirable:
    Strategic thinking, risk management, innovation, mentoring, leading multi‑disciplinary change.
