Job Summary
An exciting opportunity for an experienced GP with a special interest in ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome. The role is to join the Liverpool ME/CFS Service team, supporting our Specialist Diagnostic Clinic.
About the ServiceThe Specialist ME/CFS service is an outpatient service led by consultants from the Liverpool Regional Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit. Diagnostic service delivery is carried out from Broadgreen and Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Triage patient referrals requesting input for a possible ME/CFS illness.
- Medical assessment of patients referred to the service, both face‑to‑face and virtual appointments as per current SOP.
- Confirm a diagnosis of ME/CFS as per NICE Guidelines 2021.
- Provide clinical letters and communication to Primary Care GPs to inform of outcomes.
- Undertake further appointments as needed and under MDT approval.
- Liaise with service clinical leads to support decision making about complexities of presentation.
- Adopt a reflective approach to clinical practice, report all incidents and work with the team to investigate incidents.
- Consider with patients options for ongoing management support once diagnosis is confirmed.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with the wider ME/CFS therapy team.
- Participate in clinical & operational meetings.
- Record full clinical notes using the IT systems.
- Be an effective role model and resource for all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain clinical excellence within the organisation and provide education and training as appropriate both formally and informally for colleagues as per GMC/RCGP guidelines.
- Ensure sufficient personal development time is spent in appropriate education (including mandatory training).
- Undertake annual appraisals and revalidation as required by the GMC.
Two sessions per week. Each session includes three initial face‑to‑face patients, one telephone follow‑up and administrative time.
Qualifications- Basic Medical Qualification registrable in the UK.
- Full registration with the GMC.
- Vocationally trained and accredited GP with MRCGP.
- Faculty Registered Trainer status.
- Robust knowledge of ME/CFS and Post‑Covid Syndrome illness.
- Complex long‑term conditions.
- ME/CFS self‑management.
- Long‑term condition self‑management.
