This is a one-year, post-CCT fellowship rotating equally between the two trusts.

The Fellow Will Undertake
  • First six months at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT), under the mentorship of Dr Tze Chan
  • Second six months at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, under the mentorship of Dr Peter Littler

This fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity to consolidate existing IR competencies while gaining advanced training in some of the most complex and cutting-edge IO techniques currently available in the UK.

The Fellow will gain hands‑on experience in established Interventional Oncology procedures, including:

  • Liver ablation
  • Renal ablation
  • Lung ablation
  • Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT)

  • Portal Vein Embolisation / Dual vein embolisation (PVE)

Exposure to emerging and advanced techniques, such as Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) and Electrochemotherapy (ECT), will be provided where available.

Dedicated sessions will also be included to maintain core IR and IO skills in preparation for a future consultant appointment.
There will be no compulsory on‑call commitment
, allowing protected time for academic development. The Fellow will be expected to complete a research project suitable for submission to an international meeting, with mandatory presentation at IOUK.

Funding Will Be Provided For
  • Attendance at one international conference

The stated aim of this fellowship is to expand access to Interventional Oncology services across the UK. Applicants who demonstrate a credible and realistic plan to implement or expand IO services following completion of the fellowship will be given additional weighting during selection.
