Volunteer tutor for disadvantaged pupils - English or maths (Liverpool)
Join Action Tutoring as a volunteer tutor for disadvantaged pupils in English or maths. You will support 1‑3 pupils for an hour a week over 10‑20 weeks, either at the school or online.
Sessions are scheduled at the same time each week. You can choose to work with children preparing for their SATs (ages 9‑11) or GCSEs (ages 14‑16). Action Tutoring provides induction training, tutor workbooks, a DBS check and travel expenses up to £5 per session.
What will I be doing?- Tutoring 1‑3 pupils in Year 5 or 6, or Year 7, 10 or 11.
- Commit to one hour a week, for up to 20 weeks. You choose the day and time to sign up.
- Use tutor workbooks to guide pupils through activities that build confidence and grades.
- Induction training, tutor workbooks and ongoing support.
- Develop communication, leadership and problem‑solving skills.
- Meet like‑minded people in our volunteer community.
- Travel expense reimbursement (up to £5 per session).
- Free DBS check.
- Passionate about making a difference and helping young people succeed, especially those facing disadvantage.
- Seeking valuable experience working with children and honing communication, mentorship and leadership skills.
- Can dedicate one hour a week, either in‑person or online.
- Solid subject knowledge in English or maths, demonstrated by a relevant degree, an A‑level grade B or equivalent, or relevant experience.
- The ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently.
- A commitment to supporting pupils’ academic progress.
