At Liverpool John Moores University, our students thrive because of the people who teach, guide, and inspire them. This growth is fuelled by inspirational academics who bring vision, passion, and expertise to their disciplines.

About The School Of Art And Creative Industries

The School of Art and Creative Industries is a pioneering educational partnership that has recently marked its bicentenary, celebrating 200 years. With origins tracing back to 1825, it is the oldest school of art in England outside of London. We are a vibrant, collaborative community where creativity thrives and transcends traditional boundaries between art, design, and screen disciplines.

BA Fashion is an established course with an ever‑growing reputation for excellent graduates. The Fashion Programme practices in the tradition of creative art school processes, expecting students to develop experimental and conceptual work responding to society, art, and fashion culture suitable for industry. The City of Liverpool is a vibrant place for students to study and supports the course as a hub for research and live projects.

Students select between two pathways:
Design or Communication.

The Communication pathway focuses on visual and creative skills, encouraging students to experiment across a varied range of topics from fashion photography, filmmaking, styling to fashion branding, events, and public relations. The Design pathway encourages creative practice with conceptual thinking, sketching, experimental designing, and 3D making skills. Both pathways are underpinned by access to strong resourcing and digital skills for industry.

Contextual Studies is embedded throughout the programme, ensuring students develop essential critical thinking that supports studio practice and creative outcomes. High‑profile collaborations, competitions, and a wide range of placements within the fashion sector are integral to the programme. The MA Fashion Innovation provides a platform for home and international students to realise their ambitions in a highly creative interdisciplinary environment.

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Fashion Communication – lead studio‑based practice, workshops, and tutorials that encourage creativity and innovation.
  • Contextual Studies – deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and tutorials that develop academic skills and critical thinking across both Fashion Communication and Fashion Design pathways.

You will contribute to the organisation, delivery, and assessment of BA Fashion Programme elements, ensuring students gain the practical and theoretical knowledge they need to thrive in the industry. In addition to teaching, you will have the opportunity to engage in research and pedagogic activity, keeping your practice informed by current scholarship and industry developments.

Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a candidate with a strong academic background and practical expertise in Fashion Communication, supported by a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience. You should have experience teaching at undergraduate level or delivering professional training in creative studio environments, and the ability to teach both Fashion Communication/Promotion and Contextual Studies across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Your approach should reflect an awareness of global fashion culture and the incorporation of decolonisation in practice.

You will also contribute to curriculum development, ensuring effective delivery of modules, and engage in high‑quality pedagogic and scholarly activities that demonstrate a deep understanding of contemporary, global fashion markets.

Benefits
  • A low contractual 35‑hour week.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement and Christmas period closure with the option to purchase additional annual leave.
  • Excellent pension scheme.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Family‑friendly policies.
  • Car and travel loan schemes.
