The on‑site college nursery is located in the Arts Centre site. It opened in September 2019, following the amalgamation of two college nurseries. The nursery provides fully funded childcare for eligible students and staff of the college and a small number of places for local workers. The purpose of the role is to work as part of the nursery staff team delivering a high standard of care and education through an inclusive curriculum for pre‑school children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet staff‑child ratios to professional standards and conditions of registration.
  • Actively participate in the delivery of flexible, innovative, high‑quality childcare.
  • Contribute to the construction and delivery of a fully inclusive, integrated curriculum adhering to EYFS principles.
  • Partake in supervision arrangements, staff meetings, discussions and peer observations.
  • Assist the leadership team by taking minutes, ensuring accurate records of meetings.
  • Act as key person for a designated group of children, observing, planning and recording each child’s development in line with the EYFS statutory framework.
  • Ensure the personalised learning and development package devised for each child is effective in meeting their individual needs.
  • Assist with claims for free entitlement hours and support parents to complete claim forms.
  • Assist in purchasing consumables for the nursery and maintain adequate supplies.
  • Be responsible for accurate completion and monitoring of attendance registers and other records in line with Data Protection and GDPR.
  • Contribute to any Ofsted inspection.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures and protocols to ensure the health and safety, security and welfare of children, staff, students and visitors.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Relevant early‑years childcare/education qualification (Level 2 minimum).
  • Recent experience working with children in a pre‑school setting.
  • Knowledge of child development, legislative framework, EYFS, safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • Good organisational skills and effective time‑management.
  • Effective communication and team‑working skills.
  • Experience of the Key Person role.
  • Integrity, honesty, transparency and commitment to the College mission and values.
  • Positive, self‑motivated, passionate and driven to achieve the best outcome.
  • Commitment to own professional development and training.
  • Conversant user of MS and IT systems, willingness to learn ICT skills.
  • Willingness to embrace new systems and contribute to nursery development.

Compensation

Salary: £16,150.66 – £17,116.54 per week (equivalent £25,299‑£26,812 per year). 25 hours per week, term‑time only (39 weeks).
