Description

The Head of School for Engineering, Green Technologies & Logistics is a key leadership position, managing the curriculum design and implementation of provision across a wide range of curriculum areas – Engineering, Construction and the Built Environment, Fabrication & Welding and Motor Vehicle studies. The role-holder will be instrumental in implementing a research‑informed pedagogical approach, drawing upon best practice whilst meeting the requirements and professional standards of the sector.

In addition to ensuring the delivery of an outstanding student experience, the Head of School will develop relationships with, and be a key link for, awarding organisations, employers, educational institutions and industry trailblazers within the city region and beyond. The role-holder will use these links to enhance the curriculum offer and teachers’ knowledge and skills, leveraging these relationships to support the role of dual professionals.

The Head of School is a member of the Wider Leadership Team (WLT). The post‑holder manages a Deputy Head of School and will support other members of the WLT in delivering an outstanding student experience across all aspects of the learner journey.

The School is an innovative and leading presence in engineering, construction, welding and motor vehicle training in the city region. The outstanding work carried out by the school has been recognised with the awarding of the Clean Energy Technical Excellence College status. This is held by only five colleges nationally and brings with it exciting possibilities for further development and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the College’s strategic and operational delivery within the school of Engineering, Green Technologies & Logistics, with due account of the College’s overall strategic plan and the social, economic, and educational context of the Liverpool City Region.
  • Lead the effective planning, development and delivery of a diverse and responsive curriculum, including a professional and commercial offer, which responds to new and emerging industry practice and technologies and effectively meets student, HEI, employer and key stakeholder demand.
  • Collaborate with key employers and industry trailblazers to enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills, embracing the role of the dual professional and leveraging relationships to support continuous professional development.
  • Support and promote the College’s EDI strategy, translating this into strategic and operational actions that strengthen the approach and deliver meaningful accomplishments, developing learners and staff as advocates and allies.
  • Ensure high expectations, achievement and progression are effectively promoted and measured throughout the learner journey for all students within the school, including the most disadvantaged and those with learning difficulties and / or disabilities, supporting the College in meeting the strategic goal of turning disadvantage to advantage.
  • Contribute to the College’s strategic and business planning processes to ensure efficiency and high performance in the school and support the development of 2, 3- and 5-year plans which are informed by industry and an expert understanding of upcoming knowledge and skill requirements across Liverpool City Region priority areas.
  • Undertake effective financial management, including through the appropriate utilisation of college resources, including facilities, technology and people.
  • Drive high expectations and high performance consistently across the school to secure the College’s position as ‘best in class’ in both curriculum delivery and support for learners.
