Job Title: Pastoral Lead (Liverpool Waters)

Department: Student Progress

Salary: £30,338 - £33,139 per week (FTE is £33,513 - £36,607)

Job Type: Full time, permanent, 35 hours per week, term time only (40 weeks)

Responsibilities include providing full-time, on-site pastoral leadership across Liverpool Waters, ensuring students across all provision types make progress and achieve their goals, acting as the lead advocate for student wellbeing, safeguarding and inclusion and delivering consistent, equitable pastoral support for 16–18, adult and apprenticeship learners.

Responsible to: Director of Student Progress

Key Responsibilities
  • To contribute fully to the strategic priorities of the College, ensuring effective implementation of inclusion, safeguarding and student support at Liverpool Waters.
  • To provide a consistent and visible pastoral presence on site, ensuring all learners have access to timely and appropriate support.
  • To plan and deliver 30 hours of Personal Development Programme (PDP) to all 16–18 learners, ensuring engagement and progression.
  • To conduct three formal 1:1 Progress Reviews per academic year for all 16–18 learners, tracking progress against targets and supporting achievement.
  • To deliver targeted 1:1 pastoral support for adult learners and apprentices identified as at risk, in line with the College’s Adult Strategy.
  • To maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic records of student progress, interventions and outcomes.
  • To identify learners at risk across all cohorts and implement appropriate interventions in collaboration with curriculum and support teams.
  • To act as the key on-site safeguarding contact, responding to concerns and contributing to safeguarding processes including strategy meetings, PEP/CLA and care planning.
  • To develop expertise in mental health support, including obtaining and applying MHFA and DSL training.
  • To complete Assessments of Need (AoN) for all learners (16–18 and adults) and liaise with the ALS Manager to ensure appropriate support is in place.
  • To contribute to EHCP reviews for learners at Liverpool Waters, ensuring effective support and compliance.
  • To oversee Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) referrals and monitor completion across the Liverpool Waters cohort.
  • To provide pastoral oversight for apprenticeship learners, including monitoring engagement with Off-the-Job (OTJ) training.
  • To deliver careers guidance and coaching to learners, supporting progression into employment, apprenticeships or further study.
  • To work collaboratively with curriculum teams, parents/guardians (for 16–18 learners), and cross-college services to ensure a joined-up approach to student support.
  • To facilitate student voice activities and ensure feedback informs improvements to the learner experience.
  • To establish a safe, inclusive and motivating environment, promoting positive behaviour, equality, diversity and respect.
  • To ensure accurate tracking of student destinations and progression outcomes.
  • To attend meetings and contribute to cross-college initiatives as required.
  • To engage in continuous professional development and training relevant to the role.
