We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Altcourse, working as a CIAG Advisor. This role is offered on a permanent Full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.
Role ResponsibilitiesAs a Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) Advisor
, you will play a key role in helping learners build confidence, develop their employability skills, and progress into further education, training, apprenticeships, or employment. Working within a prison education environment, you will provide high-quality, impartial careers information, advice and guidance, supporting learners to identify opportunities, overcome barriers, and achieve their goals. You will also support learners with CV writing, job applications, interview preparation, and developing the skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

HMP Altcourse is a category B local prison, receiving sentenced and remand adult male prisoners as well as young offenders. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitive environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
Skills, Qualifications and ExperienceTo be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Preferably hold a Level 4 Information, Advice and Guidance qualification, or be willing to work towards achieving this within your first 12 months in the role
- Hold a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
- Hold a CIAG Qualification
- Have relevant experience of delivering careers guidance, using guidance tools, conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups in line with Matrix and Ofsted expectations.
- Have experience of motivating and inspiring disadvantaged individuals to set and achieve ambitious career goals.
- Collaborate with partners and stakeholders to support individuals to realise their goals and continuously improve the service.
