Description

Are you a seasoned costume designer eager to share your expertise in the classroom? The School of Creative Arts and Fashion at The City of Liverpool College is seeking a passionate Costume Design Lecturer to inspire the next generation of creative practitioners working across theatre, film, television, live performance, and the wider creative industries.

As a Costume Design Lecturer, your extensive knowledge of costume creation, character development, garment construction, textiles, historical and contemporary costume, and design processes will be invaluable. You will play a pivotal role in shaping students’ creative and technical skills, preparing them for future opportunities within the production arts and costume sectors.

Your responsibilities will encompass planning, preparing, and delivering high‑quality lessons, facilitating practical workshops, and assessing, tracking, and recording student progress to ensure an engaging and effective learning environment.

Our School of Creative Arts and Fashion offers an extensive range of creative programmes from Level 1 to Level 3, including Art and Design, Fashion, Photography, Graphic Design, Fashion Business and specialist pathways within Costume Design and Production Arts.

We are dedicated to delivering excellence in teaching and learning through innovative practices and industry engagement. We work closely with employers and external partners to enhance the student experience, develop professional skills, and support progression into employment and higher education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide flexibility in the teaching schedule by offering occasional or infrequent teaching hours, or regular weekly commitments across one or more days.
  • Deliver high‑quality lessons in Costume Design, including theoretical and practical components.
  • Facilitate practical workshops and projects that allow students to apply design processes.
  • Assess, track, and record student progress to maintain an engaging and effective learning environment.
  • Support curriculum development and contribute to programme improvement as required.
  • Contribute to a supportive teaching community, sharing industry experience and best practices with colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • Extensive industry experience as a costume designer with a demonstrable portfolio of work.
  • Prior experience in teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring is welcomed.
  • Strong knowledge of costume creation, garment construction, textiles, and design processes.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students across diverse creative disciplines.
