Job Type: Full time 35 hours per week, Fixed Term

The Deputy Head of School will support and deputise for the Head of School to ensure excellence in apprenticeship planning, delivery and outcomes through innovative and excellent practice. They will support and ensure the successful sign up of apprentices, as well as the quality of delivery, the timeliness, quality and compliance of reviews and the effective monitoring of student progress. The successful candidate will be a visible and supportive leader with high standards and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with Head of School, deputy heads of School and curriculum team to develop and implement a curriculum offer that leads to sustainable destinations for all students.
  • Support the Head of School in the design of programmes and teaching approaches that will enable the curriculum area to achieve the highest standards and value-added.
  • Undertake line management and appraisal of staff within the school in order to ensure the effective course management and administration of a portfolio of programmes with the curriculum area.
  • Support the continuous improvement of teaching, learning and assessment within the school, providing developmental observations for teaching staff and appropriate coaching and mentoring support.
  • To manage the quality and timeliness of apprentice reviews.
  • To proactively manage relationships with employers
  • To monitor and manage reviewer caseloads, deploying reviewers and skills coaches to achieve targets To track booking and completion of end point assessments
  • To liaise with employers where quality concerns arise, ensuring both the college and the employer fulfil their commitments to the apprentice.
  • To provide accurate reports of student progress to the strategic and executive leadership teams, including detailed forecasting of achievement based on reliable learner progress updates and both off-the-job and on-the-job training.
  • Be aware of national developments in the curriculum area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
  • Generic Duties:
  • To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  • To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
  • To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  • To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  • To support cross-college actives as required in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods.
  • To Review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
  • Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

    Essential Criteria
  • Educated to Level 4 e.g. Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of leading and managing teams
  • Experience of coaching and mentoring others
  • Experience of working in a work-based learning environment
  • Proven relevant experience working effectively with employers and external stakeholders
  • Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the curriculum area
  • Engaged and passionate about Continuing Professional Development
  • Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, effective member of a team
  • Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves
  • An ability to motivate others with clear, high-quality presentation of information
  • Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers
