Job Title: Bank Hairdresser Lecturer

Department: Visitor Economy, Leisure and Service Industries

Salary: £36.39 per hour
Job Type: Temporary, up to 24 hours per week

To contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and excellent practice. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. You will deliver teaching and learning on all levels, from Level 1 through to L3, and offer current and relevant industry/practitioner skills. You will be able to teach and demonstrate that you have updated knowledge of industry practices in a full range of hairdressing skills, including advanced cutting and colouring techniques up to Level 3, and good communication skills.

Pastoral care will be an additional focus of the role, and you will take responsibility for both personal and group tutorials to establish a cohesive learning experience that enables progression and development to higher levels or future employment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College, ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  • Contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and actively engage in the annual review.
  • Stay informed of national developments in the subject area and update knowledge and skills annually.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons to manage the learning process effectively.
  • Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students, encouraging independence and student autonomy.
  • Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident, and valued.
  • Establish and maintain procedures with students that promote appropriate behaviour, communication, and respect, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
  • Set and mark work according to College and School Assessment policies, and record work carried out and assessment outcomes.
  • Track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with College systems and policies.
  • Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
  • Be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and participate in their implementation.
  • Evaluate and improve communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
  • Liaise with the Head of School to contribute to the design of programmes and teaching approaches that enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value-added outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and curriculum teams in the administration necessary to support teaching, learning, and assessment in the subject area.
  • Work with colleagues to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in the subject area.
  • Review own professional development needs and participate in future training and development opportunities.
  • Communicate and consult with parents, carers, and students, including for Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events, and open evenings.
  • Ensure all students in the subject area comply with the College’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide enriching opportunities that are exciting, motivating, and enhance the student experience.
