Job Description

Vetro are seeking a passionate, motivated Additional Needs Support Assistant to join a dedicated team at a highly regarded primary school in Liverpool. The school caters to children aged 2–11 years with severe or profound learning and/or physical needs, including complex autism. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in pupils’ lives within a supportive and innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting teaching and learning for pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, or autism.
  • Assisting in the delivery of individualised therapy or care programmes designed by healthcare professionals.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, and feeding.
  • Administering medication and supporting physical intervention when necessary, following training and school policies.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of individual learning plans.
  • Supporting communication through the use of Makaton signing, PECS, and assisted technologies.
  • Assisting with classroom organisation, resource preparation, and display creation.
  • Supervising pupils during break and lunchtime, facilitating games and activities.
  • Participating in educational visits and out-of-school activities.
  • Promoting inclusive learning and supporting pupils’ social and personal development.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Supporting Teaching and Learning or relevant qualification.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (Level 2 or above in English and Maths).
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally in a challenging environment.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, including the school’s Child Protection Policy.
  • Ability to support pupils with physical, behavioural, and communication needs.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
