An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mid Essex Mental Health Support Team (MHST) as a Children and Young People Psychological Trainee (CYP-PT) for Systemic Family Practice with Conduct Disorder and Depression (CDD) as part of the NHS England funded Programme.

This is a unique opportunity to undertake a nationally recognised postgraduate training programme while gaining valuable clinical experience within an NHS Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The post combines academic study at King's College London (KCL) with supervised clinical practice delivering evidence-based interventions to children, young people and their families.

The CYP-PT programme is designed to expand the specialist children's mental health workforce and improve access to evidence-based psychological therapies. NHS England funds both the trainee salary and university training costs for the duration of the programme.

This is both an employment and training post. Successful applicants should be prepared to manage the demands of postgraduate academic study, independent learning, clinical practice, supervision and assessment requirements throughout the training year.

This post is based within Mid Essex; however, the service operates across a large geographical area. Successful applicants will be required to travel independently to a range of settings in the community and schools across Mid Essex, as well as attend teaching at King's College London, Denmark Hill Campus, South London.

Due to the size of the area covered and the limitations of public transport in some locations, access to a car and the ability to travel independently for work purposes is essential. Applicants should ensure they can meet the travel requirements of both the clinical placement and the university-based training programme before applying.

This full-time training will begin in January 2027 with around 2.5 days a week for academic work (teaching and personal study), and 2.5 days based at the service seeing clients related to training assignments.

Trainees will be both an employee of the service and an enrolled student with King's College London. Upon successful completion, qualified trainees will receive a KCL Postgraduate Diploma.

Please note that teaching will take place at King's College London, Denmark Hill Campus, South London, and successful candidates must be willing and able to travel to London throughout the training year.
