Vessel Engineer (Electrical)
Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) is recruiting for a 12‑month fixed‑term vacancy within the Mersey Ferries fleet. This role focuses on marine electrical engineering – specifically High‑Voltage (HV) competence
.
- Maintaining safe, reliable vessel systems
- Applying electrical and HV expertise in a regulated marine environment
- Supporting the introduction of modern technologies and systems
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and surveyors
- Time‑served Marine Engineer (Level 3 minimum)
- A formal, recognised qualification in Marine Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- High‑Voltage (HV) training
, with evidence of competence - Strong understanding of electrical safety, isolation and compliance
- A methodical, safety‑focused approach
- Confidence to ask questions and challenge safely
- Clear communication and teamwork
- Willingness to learn and share knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Time‑served Marine Engineer (minimum Level 3), with a formal, recognised qualification in Marine Electrical Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- Evidence of competence in marine electrical systems, including diagnostics and fault‑finding, supported by formal High‑Voltage (HV) training
- Strong understanding of health, safety and compliance within a safety‑critical engineering environment
- £33,470 – £35,369 per year
- Local Government Pension Scheme contributions between 5.5 % and 12.5 %
