UL Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer - Medium Voltage, Switchgear & Assemblies with expertise in high voltage systems, such as circuit‑breaker, switch gear, substation and associated equipment. This role acts as a Global Subject Matter Expert (SME) within our principal engineering team. The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of experience in electrical power distribution systems with familiarity in standards such as UL 2748, IEEE C12, C37, C57 series, IEC 62271 series, and related standards.

This role requires a strong client‑facing mindset, technical leadership, and the ability to influence stakeholders.

Work Arrangement
:
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in any UL office.

• Serve as Global SME for high voltage systems, such as circuit‑breaker, switch gear, substation and associated equipment.
• Serve as representative on standards committees.
• Publish articles related to technical expertise.
• Study and understand test standards, testing technology, and regulations for scope of responsibility.
• Takes on role as SME for standards, industry, and/or test capability.
• Represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars, trade shows, or standards committees.
• Manage and develop new standard programs and capabilities for region or globally.
• Have detailed understanding of test techniques, procedures, and equipment.
• Perform complex test procedures when necessary.
• Provide training to staff when necessary.
• Follow up on contacts from clients and communicate technical issues, Test Standard explanations, certification requirements and UL procedures and requirements.
• Act to address client concerns and resolve issues for a region or global office.
• Drive for consistency and enhanced quality in area of expertise.
• Operate and maintain test equipment appropriately to measure and test customer samples in the region or globally.
• Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job for a region or global office.
• Manage and review related internal documents for accuracy.
• Develop special test methods and equipment for new standards, test requirements or improved efficiency, when needed.
• Support the business externally through traveling to meetings at client sites, attendance at industry related events and other meetings.
• Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
• Perform other duties as directed.

• University Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an accredited program plus generally twelve years of directly related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
• 10+ years of experience with high voltage systems.
• Familiarity with UL 2748, IEEE C12, C37, C57 series, IEC 62271 series.
• Ability to travel 20%.
• Strong communication skills; ability to interact with internal and external teams.
