MEP Design Assistant – Residential
Location: Kent
Salary: Up to £35,000
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm (1-hour lunch)
Working Pattern: Office-based (no hybrid working)
An MEP Design Assistant is required to support the design and coordination of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Hydraulic systems on new-build residential developments, including apartments and townhouses.
The role will support senior engineers with drafting, coordination, and technical documentation to deliver compliant, efficient building services designs across residential projects.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with updating and amending MEP drawings using AutoCAD (Revit exposure beneficial).
- Support the production of residential layouts, schematics, riser diagrams, and typical unit details.
- Assist in the design of HVAC, electrical power and lighting, plumbing, drainage, and domestic water systems.
- Carry out basic design calculations, equipment sizing, and material take-offs under supervision.
- Coordinate MEP designs with architectural and structural drawings.
- Assist with clash detection and resolution within ceilings, risers, and service zones.
- Support preparation of design documentation, specifications, and schedules.
- Assist with reviewing drawings, RFIs, and technical submittals.
- Attend Microsoft Teams meetings with internal teams and external consultants as required.
- Support site visits, inspections, and preparation of as-built drawings.
- Maintain accurate drawing registers and project documentation.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with residential building regulations, energy-efficiency standards, and authority requirements.
- Qualification (or working towards) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or similar).
- Practical working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of MEP systems within residential buildings.
- Revit / BIM coordination exposure is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Clear communication skills and willingness to learn.
- 0-2 years’ experience in residential MEPH design or a related engineering role.
- Salary up to £35,000
- Full-time, permanent position
