Principal Civil Engineer – Water Sector

About the Role:

Our client is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to strengthen their engineering team. You will report directly to the Civil Regional Discipline Lead and provide high‑quality engineering design services to minimise risk and maximise value on turnkey and engineering services contracts. Your role will involve co‑ordinating designs, producing design documents and drawings, and ensuring all work adheres to health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce cost‑effective design layouts that are practical to construct and commission, considering total project costs.
  • Ensure standard practices are applied where possible to maintain competitiveness.
  • Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
  • Develop, monitor, and update procedures to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Co‑ordinate designs with internal and external disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate records and files for all contracts.
  • Support customer satisfaction by delivering high‑quality work.
  • Supervise and develop staff, promoting a safe working environment.
  • Minimise waste and consider environmental impacts in all designs.
  • Ensure all designs fully comply with health and safety requirements.

What Our Client Is Looking For:

  • Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Chartered or working towards membership of a professional institution.
  • Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic plant layouts.
  • Broad knowledge across mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Flexible mindset with ability to process complex information.
  • Strong communication skills for technical proposals.
  • Computer literacy and full driving licence.
