Amey Consulting – Assistant Traffic Engineer

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Traffic Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team in Liverpool.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. What you will be doing
  • To work in a team, producing technically sound traffic engineering solutions including Traffic Regulation Orders, speed limits and traffic calming measures.
  • Supporting the management and technical delivery of projects from start to finish.
  • Undertake technical design work including the production of electronic drawings using AutoCAD and other related software.
  • Respond to the public, Councillors, MPs, etc. regarding traffic related enquiries, complaints and FOIs.
  • Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
  • Support effective health and safety practices within the team.

We want to hear from you if you have
  • Attained or be working towards ONC, HNC/BEng in Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Design experience within a traffic engineering environment.
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD/Key Lines to produce technical drawings.
  • Experience of traffic sign design and use of Key Sign/Key Post.
  • Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
  • Experience of writing Traffic Regulation Orders.
  • Experienced in following procedures associated with the management of health, safety and welfare.
  • Has knowledge and understanding of technical and specification processes and is starting to take ownership for the production of deliverables with appropriate supervision.
  • Knowledge around designing a variety of schemes; parking management, cycling, traffic calming, priority working, minor highways, bus lanes etc.
  • Good competence with relevant software and similar analytical tools.
  • Has a basic understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects.
