Overview
HWF is supporting a business that’s strengthening its core finance controls, governance and reporting framework, and they’re looking for an experienced interim to partner closely with the Group Financial Controller and deliver a number of high-impact improvement initiatives.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing structure, discipline and consistency into finance functions and leaving a lasting legacy.
You’ll support the Group Financial Controller and CFO in driving improvements across financial control, governance, compliance and reporting. The focus is on strengthening balance sheet integrity, improving audit readiness, standardising processes and enhancing month-end reporting quality.
Process Documentation & Standardisation- Document core finance processes using a consistent SOP format
- Create process maps, RACIs and identify key control points
- Build a controlled and accessible process library
- Identify required accounting policies across entities and processes
- Implement approval, review and governance cycles
- Embed policies into BAU via checklists and practical guidance
- Build and maintain a finance compliance register and calendar
- Support SAO sign-off processes and evidence requirements
- Support technical accounting developments (FRS 102, lease accounting, in-house statutory accounts)
- Monitor and improve month-end close delivery and reporting packs
- Identify standardisation and automation opportunities
- Eliminate inefficiencies, control gaps and manual workarounds
- Support early-stage finance systems improvement and requirements gathering
- Strong experience supporting month-end close in a core finance environment
- Deep understanding of financial controls, audit trails and evidence standards
- Proven ability to standardise processes and embed SOPs into BAU
- Confident Excel and data skills (trackers, dashboards, reporting)
- Comfortable working cross-functionally and influencing stakeholders
- Exposure to finance transformation or systems change (ERP experience beneficial)
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) preferred
