Tribunal and Complaints Officer (SEND)
North West Local Authority
£400 per day (umbrella)
Initial 3-Month Contract | Immediate Start

A North West Local Authority is seeking an experienced Tribunal and Complaints Officer to provide interim support within their SEND service. This role has been created to help address a backlog of complaints and tribunal cases, which is a key corporate priority.

Key Details:

£400 per day (umbrella)
35 hours per week
Hybrid working – minimum 2 days per week on site
Initial 3-month contract
Immediate start

Role Overview You will play a critical role in supporting the Local Authority to reduce the volume of SEND complaints and tribunal cases. Working as part of the wider SEND team, you will provide specialist expertise to ensure cases are managed effectively, efficiently, and in line with statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Manage and respond to SEND complaints in line with statutory guidance and local procedures
Lead on tribunal cases, including preparation of documentation, evidence gathering, and case management
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to resolve disputes at the earliest opportunity
Provide expert advice on SEND legislation, particularly in relation to tribunal processes
Support the service in reducing backlog and improving overall performance
Ensure all work is completed within required timescales and to a high standard

Person Specification
Proven track record of managing SEND complaints and tribunal processes within a Local Authority setting
In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation, including tribunal procedures
Strong case management and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and case preparation
Experience working with multi-agency partners and stakeholders

Additional Information This is an interim position designed to provide short-term capacity and support. It is not expected to become a permanent role.
