Probation Service Officer North

Overview

The Probation Service is looking for a Probation Services Officer to work with medium and lower risk offenders. The role involves assessing and managing risks, implementing sentences, and supporting offenders before and after sentence.

• Assess and manage risks associated with offenders.
• Implement sentencing arrangements.
• Provide information to courts and agencies.
• Produce clear, accurate reports within tight deadlines.
• Support offenders with practical advice on housing, employment, and other needs.
• Deliver case management support in line with service procedures and best practice.

Applicants do not need a degree. Strong personal qualities are sought: empathy, patience, resilience, and good written communication skills.

You must have the right to work in the UK and Civil Service.

• UK nationals
• Republic of Ireland nationals
• Commonwealth citizens with the right to work in the UK
• EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein nationals, and eligible family members with settled or pre‑settled status
• Turkish nationals and eligible family members who have the right to work in the Civil Service
• Other individuals with limited or indefinite leave to remain qualifying under EUSS rules
