About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Brent's Revenues & Debt Service for a Revenues Inspection Officer. In this key role, you will help maximise council revenue by inspecting new and altered domestic and business properties across the borough, ensuring Council Tax and Business Rates records are accurate, up to date and compliant with legislation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and organised individual who enjoys investigative work, problem solving and delivering high-quality customer service.

The successful candidate will be able to manage their workload effectively, contribute to team objectives, travel throughout the borough and work independently as a lone worker.

A full clean driving licence is desirable.

In this role, you will:

  • Inspect new and altered dwellings and business properties to ensure Council Tax and Business Rates records are accurate and up to date.
  • Investigate property changes, gather information from customers and stakeholders and ensure properties are correctly valued and billed
  • Manage a varied caseload, respond to customer enquiries and support the effective collection of Council Tax and Business Rates.
  • Plan and carry out inspections across the borough safely and efficiently, working independently as a lone worker and part of a team.
  • Work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders such as the Valuations Office Agency, colleagues across Revenues, Benefits, Planning, Building Control, Licensing, Audit and other partner organisations to support accurate property records and maximise revenue collection for the borough.
About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Possess good knowledge of the Council Tax, NNDR and Valuation regulations; being familiar with the Brent area and experience of property inspections is desirable.
  • Is able to travel throughout the borough to conduct inspections and site visits. A full clean driving licence is desirable.
  • Is an energetic, organised and proactive individual who can effectively manage competing priorities, work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and consistently deliver against deadlines, performance standards and service targets. You will be able to prioritise and manage a varied inspection workload, ensuring that individual, team and service objectives are achieved.
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with customers and liaise with other departments to obtain information to maintain accurate records for Council Tax and Business Rates.
