Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the patient is fit for an anaesthetic during surgery. This will involve taking a patient's full medical history, and the ordering of investigations as deemed necessary.
Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the role are to assess a patient's suitability and fitness for surgery and anaesthesia using agreed protocols. The successful post holder will be expected to take a full detailed patient history, carry out a clinical examination, and where identified order diagnostic tests and action results obtained.
The candidate will require excellent communication skills, and the need to communicate with a wide range of disciplines is essential.

Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will be required to ensure a patient fitness to undergo an anaesthetic. The clinics are predominantly nurse‑led, and will involve a physical examination of the patient along with obtaining a full medical history. Where identified, the post holder will undertake the ordering of appropriate investigations and action any results.
Communication with all MDT members is crucial to ensure patient safety.
