Job Summary

Mersey Care is recruiting an ACP for the bank. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to practice at an advanced level in a fast‑paced environment when bank shifts are required. You will be expected to work autonomously, be highly motivated and deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the recognised remit, working within the local and nationally agreed frameworks for Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP).

This post requires the post holder to have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to manage challenging and difficult situations.

The UTC service delivers care across Liverpool sites. The service is open from 8.00 – 20.00, 7 days per week and offers flexibility with shift patterns.

You will be the Advanced Clinical Practitioner on duty to advise and support clinical decision making and function as the point of escalation as shift coordinator.

The post holder must show commitment in supporting and in the development of others to ensure a consistent, quality driven delivery of service, mentorship, and clinical supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all work undertaken within Trust policies and the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Conduct (2008) or the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients accessing the walk‑in centre/urgent treatment centres.
  • Prioritise workload and clinical interventions as appropriate.
  • Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive health assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge.
  • Appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose, and treat patients, resulting in safe management and appropriate referral or discharge.
  • Ensure patients are informed and consent is gained prior to treatment, investigation, and management.
  • Take responsibility for the supervision and development of junior members of the team on shift.
  • Identify the need for appropriate diagnostic tests, interpret the results, and act on any results requiring clinical intervention or management.
  • Identify and intervene proactively where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients, staff or relatives and escalates these to the health and safety team/safeguarding team.
  • Share knowledge and expertise, acting as an expert resource to others across primary and secondary care.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of systems and processes that facilitate patient flow, facilitating timely discharge and preventing hospital admission.
  • Improve the quality of the patient experience by identifying and meeting the individual clinical needs of patients, including child protection and vulnerable adults.
  • Maintain up to date patient records in accordance with Trust policy and professional bodies’ standards.
  • Adapt specialist clinical knowledge and skills to different clinical settings and influence service delivery and patient care.
  • Promote and adhere to the principles and practice of the Trust’s clinical governance framework.
  • Lead on the review and implementation of appropriate NICE guidance and clinical audits.
  • Support junior staff with clinical/therapy competencies and act as a key link for other teams within the service line.
  • Act as a link for secondary care to discuss potential patient admissions through collaborative working.
Qualifications
  • Registration with a relevant clinical body.
  • Full master’s degree in advanced clinical practice (ACP).
  • Completed Independent Non‑Medical Prescribing course and registration with the NMC or HCPC.
  • Mentor/teaching qualification.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Working autonomously in an advanced role.

  • Community experience working within a multidisciplinary led environment.
  • Experience with EMIS, ICE, S.A.F.E.R or SIGMA software.
