About this job

To organise and manage the day to day running of the Ultrasound departments cross site.

To provide service delivery of high quality diagnostic ultrasound investigations whilst keeping within national and trust targets for waiting times.

To work as an autonomous practitioner by the undertaking and reporting of ultrasound examinations.

Managerial/Leadership

Efficiently manage the ultrasound service, utilising staff and facilities to maximum benefit by allocating duties appropriately.

To monitor demand and capacity and communicate any performance issues to the diagnostic access manager.

To be responsible for the management of all Ultrasound staff including advanced clinical practitioners and assistants.

To be responsible for managing annual leave, sickness and other leave for the ultrasound team in line with trust policy.

To conduct appraisals, personal reviews and agree a personal development plan with all staff.

To support the clinical governance lead in the investigation and response to patient/client complaints.

To implement and monitor any remedial action deemed necessary as a result of patient/client complaints or performance issues identified at appraisal.

To be a member of the senior management team attending all relevant meetings.

Conduct service reviews when required and take part in business planning.

To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of new staff for the ultrasound department.

To be responsible for the selection, commissioning and de-commissioning of ultrasound equipment.

To be responsible for implementing trust policies and procedures.

Liaise closely with Consultant Radiologists regarding protocols and patient pathways.

Key responsibilities Clinical

To independently assess and interpret ultrasound scans in a wide range of examinations.

To autonomously produce written report of the above examinations.

To promote and ensure high standards of patient care and comfort at all times

To liaise with referring clinicians, nursing and other staff to ensure the provision of a high quality service.

To ensure that protocols and procedures are up to date and regularly reviewed.

To ensure that all scans performed in this department are of the highest diagnostic quality.
