Psychotherapist, Band 7

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Psychotherapist, Band 7 to provide specialist psychological services to staff on a part‑time basis of 18.75 hours a week.

In this newly created and innovative post you will work within the Staff Psychology Service, collaborating with colleagues in Staff Advice and Support, Organisational Development, and the wider department to develop and deliver specialist interventions, consultation, and training for staff and teams.

• Provide specialist psychological interventions to staff, including trauma‑focused therapy.
• Offer psychological expertise around indirect clinical work, including consultation and training for staff.
• Deliver psychoeducation and skills‑based training/workshops on identified areas of emotional difficulty.
• Identify and implement audit, service evaluation and development activities.
• Act independently and be accountable for own actions within professional guidelines and trust policies.

• Direct clinical intervention using a range of psychological theories and models to assess complex situations and formulate tailored interventions for individuals and teams.
• Act autonomously and undertake regular clinical supervision.
• Develop strong working relationships with divisions, departments and managers facing work‑related distress or trauma.
• Deliver clinical interventions in person or online (e.g., decompression sessions, psychoeducation, 1:1 support, online workshops).
• Provide specialised consultation to staff, groups and managers on well‑being topics.
• Manage own time, plan clinics and supervise students/assistants as appropriate.
• Maintain clear, accurate records.
• Apply current evidence‑based interventions.
• Handle frequent demands for intense concentration during sessions and exposure to distressing circumstances.

• Provide professional advice and education on psychological factors related to trauma and well‑being.
• Implement policies and service developments in line with government directives.
• Identify service needs and support establishment of new initiatives.
• Attend and contribute to professional meetings of the staff psychology team and other relevant forums.
• Deliver specialist psychological teaching/training to colleagues.
• Facilitate psychological workshops and debriefs.
• Use appropriate IT to support teaching and training.
• Participate in trust performance and development review systems (e.g., appraisal).
• Maintain and develop own professional skills through personal study and attendance at workshops or conferences.
• Active participation in local and national special interest groups.

• Undertake applied audit programmes and research to improve interventions and health outcomes for staff.
• Offer consultation to other professionals based on research or audit activity.
• Regularly evaluate clinical interventions and make necessary adjustments.
• Comply with Clinical Governance requirements.

The post holder will be line‑managed and clinically supervised by the Consultant Counselling Psychologist, the Lead for the Staff Psychology Service. Close working relationships will be maintained with other psychologists in the service and across the department and with people services and staff teams throughout the organisation.

• Accredited post‑graduate psychotherapy / CBT training
• Registration with UKCP, BACP or BABCP
• Highly effective communication, especially in sensitive situations
• Ability to translate psychological theory into practice for complex settings
• Skill in complex psychological assessment and treatment, including audit and data analysis
• Capacity to work therapeutically with people in distress
• Excellent teamwork, fostering psychological safety and learning environments
• Ability to manage competing clinical demands with supervision support
• Mobile to meet job requirements
• Proficiency in standard IT systems (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
