Overview
IT Services is seeking to recruit a Data Centre Operator to join the team.
The role of the Data Centre Operator is to support the provision of day-to-day Data Centre service operations using industry best practices and standards. They will assist in planning, designing, and implementing strategic plans to ensure data centre capacity, availability and resilience meets the University’s existing and future requirements.
Responsibilities- Installation and configuration of servers for remote access, maintaining servers, storage devices, networking equipment, and other hardware components such as PDU’s used in a data centre.
- Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with servers, storage devices, networks, power supplies, cooling systems, etc. to maintain optimal performance.
- Proactively monitor and manage Infrastructure, building management, access control and environmental alarm systems in relation to Data Centres. Some out of hours emergency escalation cover may be required.
- Communicate with support teams online or face-to-face to assist them in setting up systems or resolving issues.
- Asset management for data centre supplies and devices installed in the data centres including inventory and disposal. Maintain inventory of data centre supplies and ordering of replacement items.
- Provide access to Data Centre facilities for maintenance and support personnel and update the Data Centre maintenance schedule.
- Assist with daily backup monitoring and first level support.
- Change Management – Moves /Adds/Changes in Data Centre Environment.
Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the relevant statutory requirements, including Health and Safety Regulations, Codes of Practice, Contracts, University Specifications, established professional standards and Service Level Agreements.
Qualifications/RequirementsWe require an individual who must be self-motivated, capable of working unsupervised but also able to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the team and department.
The post involves bending, stretching and the manual handling of loads up to 20kg.
