To support and fulfil the commercial requirements of a project(s), and if required, to include pre-contract support on one or more simultaneous project. Provide support to Line Manager with works commensurate with the role.
Principal AccountabilityThe Senior Quantity Surveyor is accountable for, but not limited to, the following within each project(s):
- Live by, and ensure others do likewise, Griffiths’ Life Saving Rules and reporting requirements.
- Manage commercial resource allocated in conjunction with HR to include Return to Work, Annual Leave, Performance management and the like, as well as supporting commercial and operational staff with maximising attendance and performance.
- Take ownership and achieve minimum set/agreed forecast gross site margin. Initiate actions with Operational lead when project(s) are not achieving set gross site margin. As required, maintain commercial forecast for turnover and margin for current and next financial year.
- Take ownership and achieve minimum set/agreed forecast profit. Initiate actions with Operational lead when project(s) are not achieving set/agreed forecast profit.
- Timely provision and/or collation and submission/presentation of financial information each reporting period for project(s), which requires commercial staff, if allocated, to provide the information in a timely manner.

- Experience of the processes and requirements of supplier and sub-contractor procurement. Complying with, and ensuring others comply with, requests to complete as required.
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for, but not limited to, the following for project(s):
- Provide Health and Safety leadership, promote improvements and ensure all staff within project(s) do so.
- Actively partake in project Health and Safety initiatives, and if allocated, ensure all staff within project remit also do so.
- Actively partake, and if allocated, ensure all staff within project(s) also partake with the Close Call reporting system and submit close call cards.
- Comply with, and if allocated, ensure all commercial staff on project(s) comply with the company procedures.
- Ensure a contract is in place for project(s) in advance of commencement of works. Proficient experience of the contract form(s) being used on allocated project(s).
- Ensure a purchase order is in place for project(s) in advance of commencement of works.
- Actively ensures the timely submission of applications and receipt of certificates and cash, and if allocated, ensure that this is of the utmost importance to all commercial staff on project(s). Provide reporting information on status of applications/certificates/cash.
- Timely submission of project(s) cashflow per period, and if allocated, ensure commercial staff submit each period for project(s).
- Mentor, if allocated, subordinate staff on project(s)
- Ensure that you actively partake in Continuous Professional Development, as well as provide encouragement for all commercial staff to join Griffiths Approved Development Scheme (ADS) and gain professional accreditation. Act as Mentor and/or Supervisor on the Griffiths ADS.
- Provide experienced construction knowledge to commercial and operational staff on project(s).
- Organises own workload, and where allocated, maximise use of commercial resource available/allocated. Supports resourcing (including forward looking) and manages the team, efficiently and effectively delegating as required.
- Provide negotiation experience and support to staff on project(s), ensuring you/staff are in full possession of information needed prior to engaging in negotiation.
- Complete periodic cost control, provision of Whole of Life (WoL) cost, value and GSM forecast on project(s), in accordance with Best Practice Guidelines.
- Proficient experience of the process and requirements of change management. Compiling, and ensuring others comply with submission of notices, evaluation and agreement as required.
