Ward Overview
Ward 7B is a 28‑bedded renal transplant and nephrology ward caring for patients with acute and chronic renal failure, offering haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis modalities.
Qualifications- Enthusiastic, good communicator, good organisational skills and strong teamwork ability.
- Preferred experience in haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis; training will be provided where experience is lacking.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
- Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care.
- Inform the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care.
- Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Contribute to the development of Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking within the unit to improve patient care quality.
- Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients.
- Provide information and support to patients/carers, ensuring all involved are aware of changes in the patient's condition.
- Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs.
- Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned and unplanned routes.
- Undertake expanded practice under supervision to optimise patient care in accordance with ward/department and Trust policies.
- Involve patients and carers in the planning and delivery of care.
- Ensure effective lines of communication within the ward/department multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure equipment is checked and maintained in safe working order.
- Manage allocated workload and provide supervision of less experienced staff.
- Practice and promote safe and efficient use of all resources.
- Report all incidents, accidents and complaints to the unit manager and complete Trust incident forms in accordance with risk management policies.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Maintain own standards in relation to clinical governance.
- Provide leadership in monitoring standards of care.
- Act as shift coordinator in rotation with other nurses in the team.
- Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward sister/charge nurse.
- Adhere to the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
