An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated nurse to join our Integrated Neurology Nurse Specialist team based at The Walton Centre working across community satellite clinics and home visits.

We are seeking a Band 7 Neurology Nurse Specialist to support the delivery of high-quality, safe and patient-centred care for individuals with long-term neurological conditions, including Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neurone Disease.

Development Opportunity: Applicants who do not yet meet all Band 7 competencies may be considered for appointment at Band 6 as a development post, with a structured programme of support. Progression to Band 7 will be expected within 12 months, subject to successful competency achievement.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide expert clinical assessment, advice and support to patients, carers and professionals
  • Manage patients with long-term neurological conditions across outpatient, inpatient and community settings
  • Deliver autonomous practice, including advanced assessment, clinical decision-making and care planning
  • Act as a key point of contact, including delivery of telephone advice clinics
  • Support medication management, working in partnership with Consultants and GPs
  • Develop and deliver nurse-led clinics and patient pathways
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care
  • Contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement
  • Provide education, training and mentorship to staff and learners
Person specification
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Degree (Level
    4) relevant to clinical specialty
  • Portfolio to show evidence and experience in Long Term Neurological Conditions
  • Demonstrable experience within a minimum of one specialty area:
    Parkinson’s, epilepsy, MS or MND
  • Willingness and ability to work towards masters level qualification and non-medical prescribing
  • Successful completion of Neuroscience Module
  • Post-basic qualification in leadership and/or management
  • Teaching qualification
Knowledge & Experience
  • Significant and demonstrable advanced clinical experience within Neurology
  • Ability to demonstrate experience in leading and developing patient pathways
  • Evidence of line management experience of ward/specialist nursing teams
  • Experience of successfully managing the implementation of change
  • Experience in clinical audit / benchmarking
  • Evidence of independent clinical decision making
  • Demonstrates specialist expertise in relation to long-term neurological conditions underpinned by theory in a minimum of one specialist area
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators relevant to specialty
  • Ability to deliver educational programmes relevant to specialty incorporating a varied audience
  • Ability to write reports demonstrating alignment of the relevant service to the trust strategic objectives
  • Ability to initiate, undertake and participate in audit and research relevant to service needs
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the development of nurses and nursing practice
  • Evidence of demonstrating advancements in relevant clinical practice via presentations at conferences
