The housekeeper will play a key role as part of the team, working under the direction and guidance of the Department manager/Charge Nurse or their designated deputy. The primary responsibility is to assist the nursing team with non‑clinical tasks, uphold high standards of cleanliness in the clinical areas, and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for patients. The role requires working across two sites:
The Main Outpatients Department and the Sid Watkins Outpatient Department.
- Clean and disinfect clinical and non‑clinical areas, including waiting areas, consultation rooms, and corridors, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness.
- Assist nursing staff with non‑clinical tasks, such as setting up treatment areas, moving equipment, and replenishing supplies.
- Handle and dispose of clinical and non‑clinical waste in accordance with infection control and department guidelines.
- Monitor and report stock levels of cleaning supplies, linen, and consumables, ensuring that all required items are available.
- Adhere to departmental policies, infection control protocols, and health and safety regulations to maintain a hygienic and safe environment.
- Help organise and maintain clean storage areas for supplies and equipment.
- Offer refreshments to patients and their families where appropriate.
- Assist with tasks to support the overall patient care process, including collecting laundry, delivering pharmacy items, and other duties as directed by clinical staff.
- Report any damaged equipment or required maintenance repairs to the estates team to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
- Keep store rooms clean, tidy, and organised, ensuring that equipment and stock are stored appropriately and accessible when needed.
- Perform additional general cleaning tasks such as floor cleaning, dusting, and surface sanitation as required.
- General education
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Basic IT skills
- Food hygiene certificate or willingness to undertake short course
- Experience working in a healthcare setting
- Experience working with people
- Knowledge of infection control in a hospital setting
- Excellent communication/telephone skills
- Self‑motivated and enthusiastic
- Flexible to the service needs of the Outpatients Department
- Organised and able to prioritise workload
- Can use own initiative
