An opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Nurse Manager position on Ward 25. Ward 25 is a busy, 36‑beded acute general medical ward.
The role involves supporting the Ward Nurse Manager in their absence and maintaining high‑quality patient standards on the ward. The post holder will work without direct supervision and will take charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager, who holds continuing responsibility.
Key responsibilities include the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, as well as effective leadership and staff management and development. The post holder will work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.

Main duties of the jobWe invite experienced, motivated and independently minded Band 5 and Band 6 registered nurses who are able to act on their own initiative within agreed guidelines. Candidates should adopt a values‑led, ‘can do’ leadership style within a climate of change and uncertainty, to implement and manage plans and performance relating to quality, care and compassion within the nursing service. This will be under the direction of the Ward Manager and the professional leadership of the Clinical Matron.
The Deputy Ward Nurse Manager will ensure that operational plans and performance are closely managed by proactively leading and providing solutions to complex operational issues in accordance with Trust objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints, with timely escalation of issues that cannot be resolved.

- Co‑ordinate the ward/department on a day‑to‑day basis, including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams, individuals and self.
- Provide specialist knowledge to all nursing staff on the ward/department.
- Promote a critical and analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care, ensuring the ward/department environment is responsive to current issues.
