An Exciting Opportunity for Newly Qualified Nurses in Acute & Emergency Medicine

We are actively recruiting newly qualified nurses to our Rotational ED and Acute Medicine Programme at Aintree University Hospital, part of Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a unique opportunity to develop your clinical skills across two of the most varied and fast‑paced environments in acute care. In your first year you will complete two six‑month rotations, one in the Emergency Department and one in Acute Medicine, covering areas including ED Majors, HDU, Resuscitation, Same Day Urgent Care, Acute Medical Assessment, and our Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit.

From year two you will move into a permanent substantive placement in either ED or Acute Medicine, with the skills and confidence to work flexibly across both.

You will be supported throughout by a structured preceptorship programme and a named preceptor in each area, giving you the foundation to deliver the high‑quality, compassionate care our patients deserve.

If you are a motivated, team‑focused nurse ready to embrace the challenge and variety of acute and emergency care, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 nurse on our Rotational Programme, you will be offered a comprehensive development package including a supernumerary period, structured preceptorship, and access to the departmental education teams across both the Emergency Department and Acute Medicine.

You will have the opportunity to work across all areas of the care group, including ED Majors, HDU, Resuscitation, Same Day Urgent Care, Ambulance Bay Triage, Acute Medicine Ward, Acute Medical Assessment, and our Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit, developing your clinical skills in a supported environment.

You will work towards RCN Level 1 and Level 2 competencies, with regular reviews and sign‑offs supported by your named preceptor. As you progress through your rotational year and into your substantive placement, you will build the confidence and capability to deliver safe, high‑quality care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute and emergency conditions.
