An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Senior Post Anaesthetic Care Practitioner at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role supports safe admission, recovery, and discharge of post‑operative patients across a busy theatres complex, works 24/7 with variable shift patterns and requires flexibility and teamwork.

• Coordinate and manage the recovery area, ensuring safe admission and discharge of patients from operating theatres.
• Provide skilled practical care, pain and nausea management, and airway management for postoperative patients.
• Deliver education and training, and support junior staff and trainees through mentorship and preceptorship.
• Maintain accurate clinical records, comply with NMC standards and NHS record‑keeping policies.
• Participate in clinical audits, evidence‑based practice initiatives, and the development of unit guidelines.
• Support service planning, stock and equipment management, and act as acting unit leader when required.
• Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and out‑of‑hours cover with a 37.5‑hour weekly schedule.

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Relevant specialist training (Diploma/Degree in Specialized Theatre Practice, ENB 182/176/HEA
  605 or equivalent).
• Additional mentorship or teaching certification (ENB 998, C&G756, Mentorship in Practice, D32/D33).
• ILS/ALS training.

• Post‑registration experience in a theatre area, with at least one year at a supervisory level.
• Demonstrated responsibility for running clinical areas on a shift/daily basis.
• Evidence of mentorship and appraisal of junior staff.
• Active participation in unit guideline and initiative development.
• Management or training course completed.
• Understanding of Trust policy, procedure writing, and budget management.

• Expert knowledge in at least one area of practice.
• Understanding of Trust/NHS performance targets and political/professional issues.

• Strong communication, empathy and negotiation ability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Clinical decision‑making in the peri‑operative environment.
• Proficiency in the management of IV lines, PCA, arterial and central lines, epidurals and airway management.

• Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of efficient service delivery.
• Available for out‑of‑hours cover.

£39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata
